the constantly laughing audience is annoying. i mean...sure, there is some humor in her presentation, but they are going way overboard with their reactions. how pretentious and melodramatic!

Ummm...Thanks.

Wow, 3 people who I assume are Asian have commented that Amy is self-hating and an insult to Asians... what is this? I would like to hear more about this. I agree that feminism has caused many problems...I also believe that multi-culturalism is fraught with difficulties and may in the end not work, so I am fascinated by the perspective of Asians who are repulsed by an Asian woman who they suggest has been corrupted. I will look for Frank Chin, for a start. Does he write in English?

Thank you very much for your reply, tickingclocks48. In my defense there is plenty of room for the pointless and banal on UTube...just look at the videos you have posted featuring yourself. (btw my comment had to do with the fact that intelligence and refinement are attractive in a woman regardless of how that intelligence is used or what the woman may look like.)

Your love interests really have nothing to do with the vid, and if you have no interest in her work (which is what she's discussing) why would you bother commenting? I'm pretty sure there are plenty of vids on youtube that would cater to your asian fetish besides this one.

Superstition dude.

Everybody is commenting on her appearance and personal life rather than listening to the words she's speaking. She's showing us her life and thoughts and how that affects her work.

Amy Tan has transcended trivial concerns like that. Judge her quality of thought, not her physical appearance.
malwint (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Amy Tan is just a self-hating lapdog with no pride. It's pathetic to trade in your dignity just to have some "success."
