To con an empire you would need to reform its communities. He has shown his ability to pass down the trade of his con to people who are too naive to understand its workings. What I feel sorry for is the childrens future. I can watch this video and imagine a younger L.Ron Hubbard, who grew up poor in some district that was fool of trickery and deceit. He adapted that lifstyle, and cause of his early transition, he had most of his life to work out his appearance to a public unfitting to recieve.

"What you observe is what you observe. Look at things and life and others directly, not through any cloud of prejudice, curtain of fear or the interpretation of another."

"Look. See what you see, not what someone tells you that you see."

Closing remark:
"The one man in the world who never believes he is mad is a madman"
Whether you agree or disagree with Hubbard's material, I think that was the most sincere thing said throughout the whole interview.
I can't think of a more fitting statement deserving to be carved on his tombstone.

Why do you consider scientology a religion?
MyLegendarySelf (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
L Ron Hubbard was a crazy science fiction writer who convinced a whole lot of people that sacrificing money, intelligence, family, friends and your very life so you can understand his greatest science fiction story of all is not only acceptable but a freaking Religion.
There is nothing okay about this.

Tyler, the "Study of Knowingness" is an empty slogan, not an answer. It's a non-answer like "Read a book."
Not quite as cynical as "Think for Yourself" -- as we train you to think the Hubbard way.
Tylerbatten (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
haha ok, first of all, Hubbard explained the religion in the very first sentence: It is the study of knowingness. Then the commentator goes on to say "it has nothing to do with science" in the narrative cut.
Tom cruise seems a little weird, but discredit a philosophy, studied and tried, for that reason alone. Why?

just FYI. LRH stole 200 million dollars from his own chcurch and was prosecuted for it.
