Sorry, you are wrong. It was Washington, and it was when his wife Martha died that the slaves would be free. Turns our Martha was afraid the slaves might find that part out, and kill her, so she let them go early.

Jefferson's "Rough Draft" of the Declaration - google it. There is strong condemnation of slavery: a grievance (perhaps the longest) against the Crown was initiation/support of Colonial slavery. I don't like forcing my Neighbors to pay for my retirement, but if I don't comply with SS & Medicrap, I will be RUINED. Jefferson did not like slavery, but if he didn't have slaves, he couldn't compete as landowner, and be RUINED. I believe he would favor of abolish slavery for ALL, at the same time.
