This is the second round of severe thunderstorms that hit the Chicago area on Monday, August 4, 2008. The first round, which occurred 3 hours earlier around 8pm, triggered a tornado siren in the city of Chicago and produced 5 confirmed tornadoes in the Chicagoland & NW Indiana region. The following are preliminary reports that I grabbed during the time of the storm. Hail e0.75 inch, reported by trained spotter. Penny sized hail reported. 08/04/2008 1139 PM Itasca, DuPage County. Water covering roads. Standing water 1 foot deep in yards. 08/04/2008 1110 PM Evanston, Cook County. Flood, reported by trained spotter. Rainfall 2 inches. Heavy rain ongoing with yards flooded. 08/04/2008 1055 PM Morton Grove, Cook County. Hail e0.75 inch, reported by trained spotter. Penny sized hail. 08/04/2008 1025 PM Palatine, Cook County. Hail m0.88 inch, reported by trained spotter. Near Route 83 and Dundee. 08/04/2008 1014 PM Tinley Park, Cook County. Flood, reported by trained spotter. Report of 3.5 feet of standing water at 171st St. and Harlem Ave. 08/04/2008 0828 PM Griffith, Indiana. Wide spread damage across town. Tornado. 08/04/2008 0825 PM Bolingbrook, Will County. Half dozen homes received significant damage near Boughton Road and King. 08/04/2008 0807 PM Midlothian, Cook County. Thunderstorm wind damage, reported by trained spotter. Half dozen 18-24 inch trees snapped near 147th and Cicero. 08/04/2008 0805 PM Franklin Park, Cook County. Funnel cloud, reported by law enforcement. 08/04/2008 0801 PM Elmhurst, DuPage County. Tornado on ground. 08/04/2008 0800 PM Franklin Park, Cook County. Thunderstorm wind damage, reported by trained spotter. Numerous trees down on Mannheim Road between Belmont and Addison roads. 08/04/2008 0750 PM Glen Ellyn, DuPage County. Apartments damaged along a 2 mile stretch from Gary Ave. to Glen Ellyn Road. Fire Department declared them non-habitable.
