Has no one even thought this couldn't happen in the USA?

Of course! I think as citizens of a democracy, we're responsible to speak up and educate each other. Democracy's also an experiment and we often forget we're still working on it, changing it, developing it, but I feel fortunate to be part of it. I disagree with my gov't and other aspects of the USA very often, but I've never felt systematically persecuted for speaking against them. In the end, I'm happy to be American, but I don't believe the USA is perfect - honestly, we're very far from it. :)

There have been incidences in the past though, like the students protesting the Vietnam war like canuckleheaded mentioned. It has happened before, and no one should be beyond the thought that it could happen again.

It is always an interesting topic for foreign medias...They just keep broadcasting their own but one-side opinion on this event, but none of them seems really care about how normal Chinese think about it.
