This week's award-winning and startlingly original documentary traces the fantastic journey of Africa's most popular shoes: the flip-flop. Easily bought, quickly discarded, the flip-flop stands as a symbol of the summer holiday for millions of westerners. But in its African homeland, it undergoes a series of versatile transformations. Filmed over a two year period, this startling and uplifting film takes an ingenious look at the lifecycle of the flip-flop. It's especially noteworthy for the beauty of its photography and editing. Oh, please - I lived there for 4 years, and it IS a beautiful country, Islam and all! Why would most Americans want to follow a religious cult invented around a man who maybe existed several hundreds of years ago and thousands of miles away? If you want to open your yap, at least open it about something you know about...

Lovely story - We ,each, bought a pair of flip-flops the locals called them 1000 milers. Kenya is such a diverse country with a resourceful and lovely people . Lamu (nothing to do with the current Kenya troubles or ours for that matter) hasn't changed in 400 years. The coast is beautiful and peaceful with great scuba diving. Well worht a visit. *If you're ever in Mombasa check out the 'baby' hippo rescued that befriended a 100year tortoise.
