I don't know about the banana, except that physics professors are often excentic. The chalk is placed at an angle on the board, friction makes it "jump" at regular interval, thus the dots.

This is lame you'll die in less you find this wicked fun or something... pointless to learn. Or in cases after learning this comes an outstanding job paying huge bundles of money.
