NO... A good balanced low-tech planted aquarium (marine or fresh water) may reach no need of water changes, just refill. Could be good to consider feeding biologic filters (no comercial techniques) with proper substrates for medium to long term periods of time, cut excessive plant growth, cleaning glasses, cristal or plastic. Check low diameter pipes for clogging risks.

Yes, planted tanks require even more water changes, specialy in the first weeks, or if you have algae problems.
