The song is about Ella - a negro that was not wanted in the USA, Blacks were't on the stage nor in movies. Whites preferred whites painted black and Shirley Jane Temple composed the song, "Jump on board" Blacks were welcomed.Bobby Darin was not allowed in the grocery stores but if Ella took the lead one day there would be a black president & men like Bobby aboriginal Jew would have the rite to walk on the sunny side of the street. The song is about admiring the spunk looking beyond the beatings

That was a great translation, my friend, made many people, including myself, understand this masterpiece of a song much better. Much respect for your effort! Thanks.

I think if I translate you just the beginning you'll understand much better : It's like a cheerfulness Just like a smile Which seems to tell us "come on" Which makes us feel strangely good It's like the whole black people History Which is between love and despair Something dancing in you If you've got it, you've got it, Ella has got it, this certain something that others don't have This gift from God that makes her beautiful That makes us feel strangely (Sorry I tried my best but im french ^^")

It is about the greatness of this person and the history of the African people. A song on the respect and the humility... I think?
