REgardless of our feelings, A father lost a son, a mother lost a son, and for us fans, we can only imagine how brilliant his future works would be.
I had a close buddy blow his head off with a shotgun. We tried to get him help before but no one saw it comming.
I hope this never happens to someone you care for.
My girlfriend turned me on to his music about a year ago. Truly amazing.

wow dont go around calling people idiots. cant you just enjoy the video? and there still is question about whether it was suicide or not. he had TWO stab wounds, and his name wasnt spelled correctly on the note......... and his girlfriend sued the family for 1 million....

mate you're such an idiot. You dont think people will commit suicide for fame?? It happened for those boys who shot up the school in columnbine and Nick Drake had always prophesized his own death in the hope that people would notice his music seriously. Im not saying Elliott Smith did that, or Nick Drake, but you don't think that some teenager will see Nick Drake or Elliott Smith and think about killing themselves for fame then you are extremely naive.

he didnt commit suicide to get fame or glory, that would be selfish. He committed suicide because he had a real problem with depression. As we all know Elliott really didnt care about fame, if he did he would be spitting out rap lyrics or playing some death metal.
You need to grow up, if you think suicide is a selfish act, sometimes it is depending on the motive, then you have no idea what your talking about. People dont just commit suicide for fame.
