I woman I work with was from the Ukraine, her husband was a liquidator, in fact he is the only man of his group that is still alive today. He suffered massive GI bleeds and severe complications for months afterwards. The Russian govt sent in young Christian men to control and shovel those materials onto the burning radioactive mass. They both claim that the only reason he is still alive is because of God. A miracle any way you look at it, whether you believe or not.

well played, my assessment was incorrect. I should have mentioned the steam pockets, but the accident did have something to do with a shutdown of one of the cores, for emergency procedures or overhaul.. someone neglected to realize the steam pockets, and IIRC the gauges did not recognize it either. Either way, the disaster still hasn't reached its full potential.

Hey Geico, do some research. Chernobyl failed due to operator ineptitude. They pulled the control rods out and steamed the core. The sensors didn't pick up on the steam pockets and the reactor was out of control. It spiked and blew up.

No matter what is said of Russians, this is a noble responce, a noble sacrifice. These men gave their lives, unwittingly, to reduce the suffering of billions of people, present at that time, and for thousands of years into the future.
Sad these men had so little protection, sacrificing their lives because of insane politics and miserly action by government.
When are we ever prepared for the disasters we make, and the disasters that befall us.

i can not comment it..terrible, terrible and once again terrible...this is fault of soviet goverment...so much unecessary death people..no protect, and horrible and very painful dying..concequens...many years.....oh my god
