If anyone wants to hear ZZ's 70s stuff PRISTINE and on CD, find the 1970s compilation "ZZ Top's Greatest Hits".
It has stuff from the first album to Tejas, but it escaped the revisionist treatment of the remixed albums. It sounds WAY better than the current CD re-releases.

cheers el...in general id agree(altho i got mahavishnu orchestra on remastered cd n they sound great..they made it clearer without fucking with it)..but in this case its an awful, awful hatchet job that makes me sink to my knees screaming"you bastards..wot have u done!!"..and i cant believe billy would sanction chopping bits of solo out..

I thinkn it was Billy and RCA who was behind the 'updating' of the original mixes. They did something to the drums--adding echo--and put chorusing on the guitars.
I thihk they were trying to 'modernize' the sound for the 90s, which was all the rage back then. There was no respect for the past. But revision of perfection ALWAYS sucks. |
